The Henrico High School Drama Club has been selected to participate at the prestigious American High School Theatre Fringe Festival in Edinburg, Scotland. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for students to perform with other high schools from across the U.S. and Canada. The Drama Club will be apart of the much larger Edinburg Fringe festival which hosts over 50,000 performances over 25 days.
Henrico will present A Volume of Smoke, by Richmond native Clay McCleod Chapman. A Volume of Smoke is a haunting historical docudrama that reconstructs the 1811 Richmond Theatre fire, one of the greatest urban disasters of its time in the United States. Through a series of vivid monologues, the play weaves together the voices of performers, technicians and audience members, exploring the events that led to the chaos and tragedy that claimed over seventy lives, as well as the sombre aftermath that reshaped the community. It highlights the personal losses, including the death of Virginia's governor, and the rise of evangelical fervour that contributed to a ban on public performances.
Fundraising for this production is ongoing and donations can be submitted via our GoFundMe site or by emailing our director directly at teritter@henrico.k12.va.us.
The Drama Club will present A Volume of Smoke on May 26, 2025 at Henrico High School at 7:00.
The play will take place in the Black Box Theatre and tickets can be purchased via GoFan. Tickets are $10.
Ticketing information for the Firehouse show TBA.
